What activities I like to do in order to cope with difficult situations.

Everyone in life deals with difficult situations differently. Some people resort to drugs to help them, some resort to working out to ease their minds, and many others resort to sports because that's what brings them the most happiness in life after a traumatic experience. For me I resort to videogames or traveling in order to deal with the difficult situations that are thrown at me in life. One instance I can relate this to is when my grandma died a couple years ago and what felt like my only way to escape my reality was by playing video games. I would specifically play VR (Virtual Reality) and this is because in VR you can go anywhere you want to in the world without actually being there so it was a small escape from reality for me. Playing the VR was a great way to meet new people and socialize as much as possible and was surprisingly helpful since I was able to find some people who go through the same things as me everyday, so it meant a lot to find people I can really connect with online since I was too upset to make myself extremely active and I just wanted to stay in bed for a while. Playing video games with friends or random people is always a fun and unique experience since you never know who you may find on the internet or what outcomes of the game may occur which kept my mind at ease at such a difficult time. I don’t mainly use video games to help me cope with difficult situations though, I also like to travel around and it doesn’t have to be somewhere out of state, just anywhere around town. I usually like to travel with friends or family because it helps distract me from everything that's going on around me. Doing simple things outside of the house like walking the dog or just walking around and looking at the scenery was always therapeutic for me as well. One place that I would visit frequently though is Coney Island and I’d go there with my family after what happened since it was nostalgic for us and this is because growing up we all used to love the movie The Warriors made in 1979 and we would go to the beach location where they filmed the movie and we would walk along the beach at night have conversations and even just sit around on the beach together. Having some quality time with my family and friends outside anywhere no matter what we were doing was always a great experience for me and it made things easier for me since it distracted me from everything. Of course it wasn’t going to take away the pain completely but it was very nice to have those short periods of time where you can just sit around with people whether it’s on VR, Xbox, Computer, or outside in a random area and just have a great conversation and laugh with the people you love or some new friends you’ve just met.

  1. Good blog post! I think it's very important to have a way of escaping our reality in any way we can like for example video games, to be able to really cope with whatever we are going through.
