My Mentors In Life

Image
In the novel The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore he mentions who was his mentor throughout his life and this was the person who ultimately helped him change his ways in life, and this person was his Uncle Howard. For me growing up I had many mentors who guided me in the right direction in life and helped me learn my rights from wrongs ever since I was born. My mentors are my family members which is probably the same for most people in the world as well, but for me this is the case because my family and I have always been extremely close with each other even when we would have our arguments in life. I am the youngest of my siblings so I had much to learn in life and many people to learn from since I have two sisters and one brother. They each helped me in individual ways throughout my life and this includes my parents as well and without them I believe life would’ve been way harder for me. They taught me little things like how to ride my bike without training wheels while I was you...

What Role Music Plays in My Life.

Image
In the novel “ The Other Wes Moore” the type of music that played a special role in the other Wes Moore’s life is Hip Hop. For me music also plays a very special role in my life. It serves as a distraction from all of the things that happen to affect me, just like how video games help me. Well when I'm not in an area to play video games like my house, I love to listen to music it makes the days go faster at work and it makes the days better at school. I listen to all types of music I don’t just stick to one specific genre of music all the time, but I do have favorite artists.  One of my personal favorite artists is one that is not yet famous and his name is Shy High, he makes different types of music too and does a lot of beat switches within his songs so if that’s something you think you’ll like I definitely recommend checking him out. For me playing music distracts me from all of the hardships I may go through throughout some days and just being able to sit back and relax ...

What activities I like to do in order to cope with difficult situations.

Image
Everyone in life deals with difficult situations differently. Some people resort to drugs to help them, some resort to working out to ease their minds, and many others resort to sports because that's what brings them the most happiness in life after a traumatic experience. For me I resort to videogames or traveling in order to deal with the difficult situations that are thrown at me in life. One instance I can relate this to is when my grandma died a couple years ago and what felt like my only way to escape my reality was by playing video games. I would specifically play VR (Virtual Reality) and this is because in VR you can go anywhere you want to in the world without actually being there so it was a small escape from reality for me. Playing the VR was a great way to meet new people and socialize as much as possible and was surprisingly helpful since I was able to find some people who go through the same things as me everyday, so it meant a lot to find people I can really connect ...

Are We Products of Our Environment or Products of Our Expectations? - Antonio Hallenbeck

Image
Growing up in certain areas of the world can be very troublesome for most people or it can be very beneficial to others with the experiences they can gain from it. The mind boggling question that stirs about in many people's minds is do we let these environments that we grow up in define our future for us or do our expectations of ourselves guide us into our future? Personally I grew up in a relatively nice and safe area, but my father did not and we both turned out almost identical to each other when it comes to our moods, the things we like, and reactions to situations. I believe that we are products of our expectations and this is because with all the stories my father has told me about how he lived in an area where the crime rate and murder rate was very high, he has never committed any of the types of crimes he grew up around in his life. I believe that the environment you grow up in can in fact have an impact on the way you behave, but it is our expectations of ourselves th...

Is Higher Education Worth the Price? Antonio Hallenbeck

Image
The question “Is Higher Education Worth the Price?” is a controversial one to most people, but what does it mean exactly? Well it’s pretty self explanatory, should we be paying thousands of dollars for the same education that is given at almost every school? Will paying all of this money help me find a high paying job after college anyway? All of these questions are on the minds of college students every single day, but in order to find out the answer and really understand why we pay thousands of dollars to go to certain schools I had to do some research with the articles I was provided. According to the article “Are Colleges Worth the Price of Admissions?” by Andrew Hacker and Claudia Dreifus they state “They are staffed by casts of thousands and dedicated to everything esoteric research to vocational training and have lost track of their basic mission to challenge the minds of young people”, and this quote is describing how colleges have thousands of teachers but they have all ...

Is Fast Food The New Tabacco? Should the obesity issue be government regulated or remain personal responsibility?- Antonio Hallenbeck

Image
"Should the obesity issue be government regulated or remain personal responsibility?" is a question that can be argued against vast amounts of people, some may think it should be government regulated since it could be easily controlled, and others think people should live how they see fit. Personally I believe that the obesity issue should remain a personal responsibility and people should be able to live the life they want to live. Imagine one day a law is passed where all unhealthy foods from every restaurant is taken off the menu simply because the government believe there are too many obese people, it becomes unfair to those who don't have that issue but really love the foods from their local restaurant that are considered "unhealthy" by the government. In the article "What You Eat Is Your Business" by Radley Balko he states "Instead of manipulating or intervening in the array of food options available to  American co...

Is Pop Culture Good For You? - Antonio Hallenbeck

Image
The question "Is Pop Culture Good For You?" could be debatable in the eyes of some people. Personally I believe it is good for you and could have a lot of benefits to your everyday life. Pop culture can help with little things in life such as being bored and bringing some type of happiness, and an example of this would be going to listen to some music and enjoying yourself. Also pop culture could be very beneficial to the community because in the article that I have read called "Small Change: Why the Revolution Will Not Be Tweeted" by Malcolm Gladwell it talks about how activists started to rise up against the racial injustices while using social media platforms to get their messages across, which is a type of pop culture. The world we live in now is built off of many different types of pop culture such as, technology, fashion, video games, music, news, sports, and politics. Pop culture makes the world a very interesting place in my opinion because when you wal...
